The poultry island

Poultry Island was founded in the winter of 2021 when the Utah Refugee Goats Board of Directors approved the addition of poultry to farm operations. Spearheading this project is Daud, the Director of Operations at URG.

The original intent was to raise a small number of poultry for egg and meat production. During its first year of operations, however, URG hatched and supplied over 400 poultry to the community for meat while producing a daily average of 10 dozen eggs for sale to the community. The Island currently houses five main breeds of chicken, along with Ducks, Guinea fowl, and Turkey supply for meat.

At any given moment, the farm has 150 egg-laying hens, 300 meat birds, 50-75 Guinea Fowls, and about two dozen ducks. The poultry island is also home to over 10 families of bunny babbits which are on-site social entertainment for children and adults alike who visit the farm during field trips or volunteer chores.
